Going to Nepal!!!

Hello Friends,

Sanghita is going to Nepal again!

The first of February I will fly to Kathmandu, where I will meet Rita2. We will stay a few days in Kathmandu and then: back to Pokhara, back to my kiddies.

As before, I am trying to raise money again, which I will use for projects in Nepal. (Chitwan, schools, hospital in Bandipur, etc.) I don't like to send money direct to Nepal, I prefer to see for myself what is needed.
Also some people have asked me if I was going to take donated clothing, toys, etc. with me. To avoid extra costs (luggage overweight, paying at customs) I believe it is better to take money with me. This way the knife will cut on two sides: buying the materials IN Nepal from locals and bringing it to the places where needed. Of course I will fill up my backupspace with some items to take with for the children, but I don't want to take overweight.

And for those living on Crete: did you know there is also an orphanage in Neapoli? So, if you are cleaning out the cupboards of your children, keep that in mind!

From the first of February 2009 you can check daily this site to follow me and Rita2 on our travel, our diary and of course pictures!! (I am curious what Rita2's Nepali name is going to be, we will inform you!!!)

Touring the Island

It was a beautiful day. We rented a jeep from Eagle to go as 'tourist' over the Island.

We headed for Mirtos. What a beautiful village!

First we sat down for brunch at the Akti Taverna. Yiannis, the owner, was trying very hard to stay awake, while we were there.

Walking through the village, making picture after picture. Is this how Elounda was odd years ago?

Cooling off in the sea and on the road again.

We followed the road from Mirtos to Ierapetra, Makrigialos (where the area suffered from a fire). I remember Makrigialos as a little village. Now it looked like Malia 2! Brrr, quick let's get out of here!

The scenery along the road was sooooo beautiful.

On the way we encountered a helicopter spraying water on the high voltage electricity poals, to prefend another fire. Brave men in this helicopter, getting so close with their rotor to the electricity cables.

Exactly on the right time we came to a look out point, looking from the Mochlos site towards Agios Nikolaos. There we were able to make a few shots of the last sunrays over the bay.

Both (my sis and I) very impressed and grateful for this beautiful day, came home and re lived in our thoughts the day again.

I can advise anybody to get in the car sometimes, to drive away from Elounda. There is still so much beauty, peaceful places on this island.

Don't just go through live but LIVE IT!

Just one of those days

Yesterday was just one of those days. My day off, but relaxing? No way.

I wished that we had 36 (or even better 48) hours in a day, but even than - as a friend said to me - I would be able to fill up every minute with running around.

Have you ever tried this: fixing your hair with a hot brush, in the meantime smoking a cigarette, trying to put your earrings in, loading and unloading the washing machine, put some make-up and I think there were just a few more things I did in the same time.

Be careful: with this one you should see a label: people, don't try this at home.

I ended up putting almost eardrops in my eye, blue lips because I was holding the eyeliner instead of the lipstick, changing again the top I was wearing because in the meantime while I was doing my hair I was brushing my teeth: yes, toothpaste all over my clean top!

Luckily the hot air brush is significant bigger than my toothbrush or else..... hhhm, why do I have hair in my mouth?

Another tip: do NOT go and sit on a Greek toiletseat just after you have put baby-oil all over your body. Yep: toiletseat was already not really secure, so I ended up on the floor, between the toilet and the bathtub with the broken toiletseat on top of me.

Needed again a shower after all this rushing around but was running out of time for my appointment, where I ended up being on time, not matching top and trouser, two different earrings, Botoxlips from rubbing off the blue colour of the eyeliner, but absolutely very easy with ordering food and drinks. I simply agreed on everything, too tired to argue or discuss. Just happy with anything that ended up the table, which only needed to be shuffed in my mouth.

It was a wonderful, relaxing evening, no laptop near me, an evening off!

Have to run again, time for work, tonight I will go to the airport to pick up my sis Astrid.

So Elounda watch out: The SoulSisters are on the move!

Have a nice day, don't do the things I do, you might not be so lucky to end up without real damage (because I have years of experience being clumsy I get away with it)!

Mike, thanks a lot for getting me 'involved' in Elounda77.
Just so that you know that I am also infected with the late nights disease!
What did we do before there were any computers?
Playing scrabble, Twister and things like that, or just go to sleep at a 'normal' time.

I thought better to write today some news, because soon I am going to have less time.

Next week wednesday my sis is coming, so a lot to catch up the two of us. Elounda watch out, the SoulSisters are on the move soon!

And... Friday the 25th at 20.30 we have the opening of the Exhibition of Alexandros Arabatzoglu (my 'boss', Cicada Gallery) with his sculptures together with Yiannis Petrakis with his iconography and paintings.

It is going to be held in the Community Centre of Elounda until the 20th of August.

Keep your eyes open, very soon you can see the pamflets with the announcements of the Exhibition with more details and from the 18th of July there will be two banners put up.

I am a little bit proud of Marilena and myself for designing the invitations, the brochures, the pamflets and banners ourselves.

But, like I said, you can judge that yourself soon.

Today was a good day. We sent our material to a business in Heraklion, but (sorry) they made a mess of it.

So, today we went to Zoe in Agios Nikolaos and Nikos started straight working on it. I am so excited: tomorrow afternoon everything will be ready!

There ARE things possible in and around Elounda, it is just a matter of finding the right people for the right job. I DO LOVE ELOUNDA!

I know that sometimes people (including me) complain about 'the Greek system', but there is always a point of light to find, just keep looking for it.

Wishing you the next days nice days with lots of light points to SEE, so you will remember WHY you are in Elounda, why this is a special place.

Hello again.

Just to let you know that I am still 'working' on this site.
My goal is to set up a real nice site, with different pages.
A photo gallery, a facts and fun page, short stories, maybe even 'interviews' with people living and/or visiting Elounda for a long time.
A page with quotes, and this NEWS page is going to run Pita Pan reports: "Happy thoughts make me fly".

But, as we all know, the world was not made in 5 days or less, so please give me some time.
I am working on it!

Until then, you have to do it with this way, scrolling down the page, to see all these 'pages' for the momo on this one.

On this site you will find short stories about living in Elounda.

“Elounda Place”, a small village where always happens something.

“Planet Elounda” because sometimes I feel that or I or the rest of the people landed here with a shuttle: strange - funny - silly - crazy people. Of which I am one!

Furthermore on this site you can read all about Nepal, where I “voluntarily” lost my heart (or found it).

I want to emphasize that I absolutely don’t mean to offend persons or situations.
It is ment to see it as positive, funny.
Important for me is that in my opinion it is true, and for some the truth can hurt.
